The New Firemen
                  By Riley McJunkin
I am Jean-Marc Cote. The year? 1899. Yesterday I got the paper and read about yet ANOTHER fire and our firemen being too slow to get there. So I sat down and drew a picture of what I hope will be firemen in the year 2000.

I sketched a large home with a lovely balcony, the home set on fire. Large deadly flames erupting from the home. The flames were beautiful, rich reds mixing together with shades of gold. How could something so beautiful be so deadly and destructive? A rich woman stood passing her beloved child to the caring fireman's arms as though she were passing her soul to her hero. The firemen had large, velvety, majestic, wings, pulling them up to the distressed woman. Ah, if only the world was carefree, knowing that people would be there for them...
